Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 16 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology. His work — which includes reporting, criticism, and explanatory journalism — focuses on sports video games, PC gaming, streaming services, and gaming hardware, and the ways in which they intersect with technology.
Samit joined Polygon in mid-2012, shortly after the site’s founding. He previously worked at the gaming blog Destructoid, and was published in the magazine @Gamer. At Polygon, he has written thousands of articles, and made on-camera appearances in a number of episodes of Overboard and Speed Run, but everyone here knows that his true passion is copy editing. He also has extensive experience in audio, having been a regular on the Press Row Podcast for dozens of episodes and multiple PAX East panels.
In his capacity as a journalist, Samit has appeared as a guest on NPR’s All Things Considered and Marketplace Morning Edition, The Verge’s Vergecast, and The Ringer’s Achievement Oriented. In his capacity as a trivia nerd, he appeared as himself on one episode of Jeopardy!. He also served as the guest curator of a Madden NFL exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image, and currently serves on the nominating committee for the New York Videogame Critics Circle’s Games Journalism Award.
Samit works from his home office in Westchester County, New York, because doing so lets him sleep in — and allows him and his wife to spend more time with their new baby boy and their rescue dog, Momo.
